Divorce/Dissolution of Marriage

Dayton Divorce Lawyer
Daniel E. Brinkman, Attorney at Law

There are times when divorce becomes a bitter and spiteful affair. In other situations, the spouses agree to dissolve their marriage union in the most amicable and mutually beneficial way possible. And sometimes, all a couple really needs is a little time apart to set things right again.

I provide compassion, guidance, and representation to families and individuals who are considering the dissolution of a marriage or who have decided that they want to get a divorce. But divorce often involves more than just going your separate ways. Because of that, I also help people in several family law matters that are typically associated with divorce including:

Spousal support, alimony, prenuptial agreements

Child custody, parenting time, joint custody, residential parent status, guardianships (legal custodian), DNA paternity testing

Child support, post-decree modifications

Division of marital property, division of retirement accounts,

Southwest Ohio Military Divorce Attorney

Children are the primary consideration in any divorce proceeding and their 'best interests' must be protected under the law. For this reason, before I advise my clients to take any course of action, I thoroughly consider the welfare of the children who will be affected by it.

In addition to handling civilian divorces, as a lawyer, I also handle divorces involving military personnel in Ohio. These military divorces are handled somewhat differently than others and having an attorney who is experienced in the nuances of military divorce is important to achieving the best results.

Of particular note, under federal law, a spouse must be married to a military member for more than ten years in order to receive 50 percent of that military person's retirement plan. In Ohio, the ten year rule does not apply and that's important to a lot of people.
